PROCLAMATION
Whereas,
2006
is the 60th Anniversary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States,
Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392, Oak Harbor, Washington; and
Whereas,
established over 100 years ago, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is
the largest Veterans organization, chartered by Congress, in the United States of America; and
Whereas,
the 1,073 members and 300 auxiliary members ofWhitehead-Muzzall Post 7392 are
committed to supporting our community through Veterans assistance programs, youth programs, school
scholarships, patriotic awareness programs, youth and adult safety programs, National Night Out and
the Boy Scouts of America; and
Whereas,
Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7293 has an on-going commitment to provide phone cards,
care packages, cards and letters to our forward deployed troops now serving in harms way; and.
Whereas,
Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392 provides ort-going services to indigent veterans and
veterans seeking medical care through the Veterans Administration via a local volunteer Service Officer
and VFW Department of Washington veterans assistance representative; and
Whereas,
Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392 maintains a continuing support for our National Home
for Children, the USO, Operations Uplink, and Buddy Poppy's through donations ftom the local
community committing over 13 million volunteer hours per year nationally; and
Whereas,
2006 will be a time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Veterans of Foreign Wars of
the United States, Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392.
NOW, THEREFORE,
we, Patricia A. Cohen, and City Councilmembers of the City of Oak
Harbor, do hereby declare May 13,
2006
as
Veterans of Foreign Wars Support Your Troops Day
in honor of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392 and
the Ladies Auxiliary for their dedicated commitment to serving the citizens of Oak Harbor and those
men and women who have served and are presently serving in harms way.
