PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, throughout this Nation's history, American soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and
coastguardsmen have bravely answered the call to defend our freedom, to aid our friends and
allies, and to turn back aggressors; and
WHEREAS, the price of freedom is high, we cannot afford to forget those willing to pay it; and
WHEREAS, we can never fully repay our debt of gratitude to the more than 650,000 American
service members who have died in battle or the 1-4 million who were wounded; and
WHEREAS, there is more than 25 million living veterans who served our Nation in times of peace
and war; and
WHEREAS, they are living examples of the timeless truth that freedom is not free; and
WHEREAS, Veterans have always continued teaching new generations of young Americans the
importance of the liberties they helpep. secure; and
WHEREAS, I proclaim November 11, 2006 as a day to celebrate our veterans on Veterans Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, JVE, Patricia Cohen, Mayor and Councilmembers of the city of Oak
Harbor, do hereby honor all our veterans, past and present, for the dedicated service to our
glorious country. Their sacrifices are not forgotten. We remember their outstanding service to
their families, the citizens of Oak Harbor and our great country.
