For Meeting Held 2 July 2007, at 1940.

 

Prior to the meeting, Department and National awards were presented by the District 15 Commander. 

 

Commander Keith Woodridge called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

Roll call of Officers:  12 present, 4 excused, 1 absent, 1 vacant. 8 additional members present, and 3 distinguished visitors:

Minutes of June 4th meeting read and accepted

Quartermasters report read and accepted.

Outgoing Quartermaster explained items from report regarding checks not yet cashed.

Service Officers report: None

Comrades or family members in distress:

Dave Honebrink suffered a stroke.

Mike Wichert is recovering from surgery.

Don Swendson had knee surgery.

Delia Pierce is in the hospital for observation.

Linda Mier, National President’s son died recently

Draping of the Charter for deceased member: None

 

Committee Reports

Adopt-A-Road:  Clean up held last Saturday.  Chairman is amazed at the number of excuses for not showing up.  Unable to obtain further grounds for clean-up.  Will post dates in upcoming bulletins and website.

Membership/Buddy Poppy: xx Life, xx New, xx Reinstate, xxx Continuous, xxx Total, xxx membership, xx in Buddy Poppy Sales.

Building: Urinal in small rest room may have an ongoing leak.  To be checked out by member shortly.  Also have some vandalism that broke a light fixture cover.

Golf: 43 players paid so far, 48 signed up.  Tournament seems to be a bit slow this year.  Will require tickets from Quartermaster.  Recommends a letter of recognition for generous contributor.

House: New accountant gave a presentation regarding our financial statement, and certain requirements that have not been met.  Gordy to be the new janitor.

Land & Rec: Grounds are in good shape due to the efforts of the McGarr family. 

VOD/Youth Essay: Numerous awards were won by the Post for the past years activities.

Trustees: Audit set for mid-month.  Canteen appears to be I good shape, including books. 

Fundraising: Kinkel to get the license for non-member poker.  Breakfast turning profit, 50/50 drawing ok.

Surgeon/Hospital:  September 18th, December 1st, blood drives.

Safety: Discussed the beach living and flood plans for future.

Upcoming Events: 4th of July Parade & food booth, Golf Tournament 21 July, Annual Picnic is third Sunday in August.  Awards to be given at that time. (VOY, etc.)

No Life member drawing.

50/50 drawing won by James Fasy.  Donated to General fund.

 

Unfinished Business:

Mike Pierzchala states new exit signs will be installed.  Possibly new post sign. No more info.

Wi-Fi access will start installation on Thursday, 5th.  Service Officer’s stipend will pay

for the Wi-Fi.

Bob brought up the subject of possibly bussing of Vets to Olympia for “demonstrating” against lack of passing of issues related to disabled Veterans.  Discussion of reasons the legislation didn’t pass.  Possible hosting of Town Hall meeting here discussed.

Past Commander Mike Peterson explained some of the issues concerned.

 

New Business:

Bruce Wood presented information regarding grant writing.  The person he knows of writes grants and knows who to send them to for the various projects we may have.

Pete Sill proposed a change to the bylaws, Article 10, Section a and b.  Motion made to remove the last sentence from Article 10, section a, “Any member who does not have an official dues receipt card in his/her possession must be signed in as a guest.”  And Article 10, section b, “All guests must be signed in the guest log with a legible, legal signature. And the sentence “Any person who is eligible to apply for Membership in the VFW, Ladies or Men’s Auxiliaries, may be signed in as a guest, no more than three (3) times during the calendar year.”  Motion seconded. Will be voted on in two more meetings.

 

 

Good Of The Order:

Member stated that to much profanity is being used in mixed company in the canteen.  Would like to see current rules regarding same enforced in mixed company.

Volunteers needed to march in the July 4 Parade, and food booth at City Beach.  Sign-up sheets on board in canteen for both.

Letter from National for membership achievements, including streamer for the Post flag.

Past District Commander Kevin Lee expressed thanks for being able to present the awards to the Post.  States Post is vital to both the Community and the District.

Current District 15 Commander Rick Hamilton states he appreciated the turnout. States the reports from the committees, and information received and disseminated during the meeting shows the reason that this Post received all the awards they did.

Past Department Commander Mike Peterson also thanked the Post and Officers for the support.
