For Meeting Held 6 August 2007, at 1940.

 

Commander Keith Woodridge called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

Roll call of Officers:  12 present, 4 excused, 1 absent, 1 vacant. 2 additional members present.

Committee Reports

Adopt-A-Road:  Next cleanup Saturday 11 August, 0900

Membership/Buddy Poppy: 0 Life, 2 New, 4 Reinstate, 69 Continuous, 75 Total, 7.22% membership, $0 in Buddy Poppy Sales. 

Building: Ovens removed from kitchen.  Other residential stove is operating.  Leak in small bathroom to be addresses Thursday.

Golf: 102 signed up & played.  Paid out ten places.  Total donations $3,320.48 for the scholarship fund.  Thanks to all that were involved.

House: No Chairman, Interim Chair Stan Gearheart reported $4,500 to Post.  Bookkeeper

again at the meeting for any questions.

Land & Rec: McGarr’s gone. Post to continue mowing and sprinkling.    

VOD/Youth Essay: No report at this time.  Request made to assist new Jr. Vice.

Trustees: Books in good shape, canteen being run in superb manner.  Report will be forthcoming shortly.

Fundraising: Post breakfast had good turnout, $184 turned  in. Poker tournament on the 12th.  Car show on the 11th at City Beach with food booth.  50/50 on hold until correct membership list can be produced.

Surgeon/Hospital:  September 18th, December 1st, blood drives.  Post has too much hospital equipment.  Currently, no more equipment is being accepted.

Safety: State Route 20 discussed.  Second hill construction south of Oak Harbor will be done after Monroe Landing project is finished.  Work in area of North Whidbey.  Major work on I-5 in Seattle area starting on the 10th to 29th from I-90 to Spokane Street.

 

Upcoming Events: Annual Picnic is Sunday 19th of August.  Car show on 11th. National night out on August 7th, 2 PM to 8 PM.

No Life member drawing.

50/50 drawing won by Fred Bishop.  Donated to general fund.

 

Unfinished Business:

New exit signs will be installed.  Partially finished, exit signs still under construction.

 

Cecil Pierce makes a motion to rescind a motion to join the Chamber of Commerce.  Seconded by Pete Sill.  Discussion held.  Passed.

 

Pete Sill proposed a change to the bylaws, Article 10, Section a and b.  Motion made to remove the last sentence from Article 10, section a, “Any member who does not have an official dues receipt card in his/her possession must be signed in as a guest.”  And Article 10, section b, “All guests must be signed in the guest log with a legible, legal signature. And the sentence “Any person who is eligible to apply for Membership in the VFW, Ladies or Men’s Auxiliaries, may be signed in as a guest, no more than three (3) times during the calendar year.”  Motion seconded. Will be voted on in one more meetings.

 

New Business:

David Johnson nominated to fill vacancy on the House Committee.  Adjutant directed to make a unanimous yea vote.  Johnson elected.

Ben Bunnell made a motion to spend enough money on Road Cleanup to provide 4 “grabbers “ for those doing road clean up.  Seconded, passed.

 

Good Of The Order:

National night out sign up sheet is posted in the canteen.

Post breakfast on August 26th.

Received card form Cecil Pierce thanking us for support during fathers death.  Invited all to celebration of life for father on 11 August.

Discussion of the Teacher of the Year, VOD, Patriot’s Pen, etc. regarding judging dates and when applications must be received at which levels.

September 29th is the Autumn Leaf Festival Parade in Leavenworth.

Men’s auxiliary seems to be going defunct.  Commander will take for action.  May need to transfer to a different Post. 

Adjutant expressed concern that only a small number of people are willing to go under the Post or into the attic.  We need other members to assist.

Department Chaplin recognized. 

District Quartermaster requested volunteers for Rest Area Coffee Stops.
