For Meeting Held June 7, 2010 at 1900.

 

 

Commander Pete Sill called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

 

Roll call of Officers:  16 Present, 2 Absent, 1 Excused, 9 additional members present.

Motion made and seconded to accept new members.

Motion to accept, Wooldridge, Pierce second.  Passed.

 

Initiation of new members:  

 

Minutes of May 2010 were read and accepted with three corrections, two additions.

 

Quartermasters report read and accepted. 

 

Service Officers report: 37 clients, 200 miles, 64 hours for May. 

Motion made to pay 1 night, 1 room, for service officer training.  Motion seconded.  Motion amended to include mileage to and from Vancouver, Wa.  Passed.

 

Member or family members in distress:

Logan Walkers family member injured in auto pedestrian accident.

Ron Cass back in Chemo, doing well.

 

Draping of the Charter for Deceased Members:

Committee Reports:

Adopt a Road:  11 people turned out.  Road cleaned. 20+ bags picked up.  Remember, first Saturday of the month.

 

Membership/Buddy Poppy: 725 Life, 55 new, 17 reinstatements, 177 continuous, 974 total for 100.41% from last year.  Buddy Poppy report sent to Chairman.  $1,400.01.

                                                                    

Building:

Plumber started this AM.  Last time power went out, all emergency lights failed.  Motion made to purchase three new emergency lights at $44 each.  Seconded.  Discussion held.  Passed.

 

Land & Rec:

New campground host has been appointed.  Bob Nielsen. Signs are done, Darrell will pick up, help needed for installation.

 

House: 3 present, 2 absent.  No money turned over to the Quartermaster.  New system will be up soon. 

 

Trustees:

Quarter no over until end of June.  Audit to be held in July.  M/G is now included in audits.

 

Fundraising:   50/50 is over $846.00.  Breakfast went well, 102 last month.  Turned in $422.  Poker turned in $347 to Quartermaster.  Ben Bunnell will buy the bar a round and donate the remainder of the money to the building fund if he wins the 50/50.  Commander Sill states the same.  Rifle has arrived, tickets have been printed, will be dispersed shortly.

 

Surgeon/Hospital: Blood  Drive on June 19th.

 

VOD/Youth Essay:  Nothing at this time.  NJROTC Awards presented.  Coupeville and Oak Harbor High Schools to receive aqwards this month.

 

Safety: No report.

 

Chaplain: Five families visited.

 

VFW Motorcycle Group: 20 Members on the roster.  Ride on June 19th.

 

Golf: Only a month left, only one entry received.

Winner of the 50/50 Drawing:

Pete Sill won the drawing, donated to the Building Fund. 

 

Note: Prior to restarting the meeting, the Junior Girls reported they took Unit of the Year for the State of Washington.  While under the direction of the Ladies Auxiliary, they represent the entire Post.  Three of the Post Junior Girls will be holding State offices.  They have requested permission to hold a dance and talent show at the Post.  No date is set, but they are providing us with advance notice and request for permission.

 

Unfinished business:

The question was raised regarding repairs to the deck above the loading dock.  A $1,400 bid was rejected.  Self help will be used

Books of tickets for Rifle Raffle can be signed out after the meeting tonight.

 

New Business:

Committee will be required to review by-laws to conform to IRS standards. 

Parking lot will be redone in July.  Working party required.

Motion made to make Motorcycle only parking area.  Seconded, passed.  Bud donated the paint for the striping. 

Volunteers of the year for 2009-2010 were: The Gearheart Family, and the two Service Officers.

 

Good of the Order:

Dianne Small running for Department President.  Fund raiser to be held on June 12 at the VFW.

Prime Rib, $15.00 per person, see Kathy Naff for tickets. 

Swap meet to be held at the Post.  Tables may be purchased.  See Kathy Naff for details.

Peace Arch Ceremony, Sunday June 13th.

Department Convention June 18-21

District Coffee Stop July 16-19, Aug 13-16, Labor Day Weekend Sept. 3rd to 7th.

Lynden Post has a booth at the Lynden Fair.

Volunteers still needed at breakfast.

25th Anniversary Car Show has invited us to participate in this year’s event.  Motion made to support the event.  Seconded.  Passed.  August 13, 14, 15.  Actual show is 14th.

Motion made to allow the Jr. Girls to hold a dance and a talent show as two separate events, pending availability of the room and future information presented.  Seconded and passed on the condition that future information meet all requirements the Post may have.

Request made that the bartenders use the designated space not the general parking area.

Cell phone  law goes into effect June 10th.  Anyone using hearing aids can still use phones.
