For Meeting Held February 1, 2010 at 1900.

 

Commander Pete Sill called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

Minutes of January 2010 were read and accepted, with one correction.

 

Quartermasters report read and accepted with one change.

 

Service Officers report: 26 claims, 225 miles, 72 hours for January.  This Post has 93%  success rate for the first quarter.

 

Member or family members in distress:

Skip Johnson’s mother had major surgery.

 

Deceased Members: None.

 

Committee Reports:

Adopt a Road: Next cleanup is February 6th, 9 A.M., meet at the Post.  From here on, all cleanups will be the first Saturday of the month.

 

Membership/Buddy Poppy: 723 Life, 32 new, 9 reinstatements, 151 continuous, 915 total for 94.33% from last year;  .  43 needed for 100%.  Poppy distribution program will be done March 3, 1200-1600.  Safeway, Market Foods, and Albertsons.  Also, good opportunity for membership drives. 

 

Building:

Several water repairs, gutters, repaired.  Water loss during breakfast. 

 

Land & Rec: Well problem was tripped circuit breaker.  Reset and taped shut. Will eventually need repairs to the second well.  Campground host fired.  Grounds being cleaned by community service volunteer.  Volunteers will be needed for grounds maintenance this summer.

 

House: All members present at last meeting.  No funds turned over due to upcoming tax bills.  New Years was great success.  Information is being received for new accounting system.  More information to come.

 

Trustees: Audit held.  Books balanced after second set of eyes reviewed report.  Quartermaster has learned new method of recording deposits for quicker reporting.  Weekday vs. weekend.

 

Fundraising:   50/50 is over $400.00.  Breakfast went well, 140 last month.  Turned in $406 this month, should be better this month.  Poker turned in $418 to Quartermaster.

 

Surgeon/Hospital: No report.

 

VOD/Youth Essay: Checks to be written shortly, certificates ready for issue.  Volunteers needed to distribute same.  Patriots Pen award to be presented next meeting.

 

Safety: Extreme high tides this month, high winds predicted for February. 

 

Chaplain: Visited next of kin of deceased spouse.

 

VFW Riders: Bylaws being done, bylaws will be first in state

 

Golf: 17 July will be the date of this years tournament.  Format and entry fee will be the same. Memorial tournament for Carl Gotcher will be on April 17th    .  Money will be divided up, some to Post, some to family, some to Memorial Bell.  Motion made Murphy) to provide $500 seed money 8 days prior to out tournament. Seconded by Wooldridge.  Passed.  Carl’s bell will replace current item at hole 16th.

Won by Ben Bunnell.  Donated to the building fund.

New bid still coming for plumbing.  No bid yet.

Sign bid still pending.  Nothing yet. 

Need fundraising ideas for building committee.  2x4 project discussed.  Motion made (Johnson) to buy 50 2x6 and 50 2x4 pieces.  Seconded (Woolridge), passed.

Service officers would like the Post to purchase a computer system for the Service Officer only, to provide security for records of clients.  Possible donation of computer confirmed.  System should be on line in about 7 days.

 

New Business:

Quartermaster reported on way to reduce costs of phones and internet.  Price with Comcast for phones and internet will be $149.95.  Motion made (Kinkel) to accept proposal for Comcast, seconded by Pierce.  Tabled until next month until representative can be available for discussion.

Motion made (Wooldridge) to reimburse him for District convention.  Seconded (Pierce), passed.

 

Good of the Order:

Next District meeting, February 14th, in Lynden.  Luncheon for Patriots Pen & Youth Essay winners prior to the meeting.

Junior girls having Taco feed this month on Friday the 26th, $5 all you can eat.  More info to follow.

Junior girls donated $300 to the building fund.

Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting dinners for the building fund in the future.

Bracelets available for first Afghanistan POW.  Sold out at meeting.

Personal letter received from out of state couple thanking us for our hospitality.

Comrade Dean Miller is running for trustee, requesting endorsements.

Comrade Berthiaume is running for National 14th District Council Member and is requesting endorsements.

National Cemetery opening in Spokane for veterans.  Teams wanted to volunteer for duties in assistance with ceremonies.

Roast for Department Commander Gary Morton, & Nicky Benjamin.  Info on bulletin board.

State Commanders homecoming in Deer Park.  Sign up sheet on board.

 

District Commander Reports:

Post 7392 received the Jason award at the conference.
