For Meeting Held 14 Sep 2009 at 1900.

 

Commander Pete Sill called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

 

Roll call of Officers: 10 present, 8 excused.

 

Distinguished Visitors: District 15 Commander Darrel Small, District 15 Senior Vice Commander Keith Wooldridge, Former District 15 Commander Cecil Pierce, Department Buddy Poppy Chairman Chris Kinkle.

 

New Members: Allen R. Comeau, Ronald Lee Lilley, Scott Theron Harrison, Thomas Edwin McClune, Robert D. Sloan, Thomas G. Mareina.

 

Motion made and seconded to accept new members.

Minutes of 3 Aug 2009 at 1900 meeting read and accepted with two amendments.

 

Quartermasters report read and accepted with no amendments.

 

Service Officers report: Up to 93% acceptance rate, expenses increased from $100 to $300.

Committee Reports:

Adopt a Road: None

 

Membership/Buddy Poppy: As of 12 Sep 720 Life, 6 new, 79 continuous, 2 reinstatements, 807 total (83.2%). Poppy drive brought in $217 and change (still counting) for Buddy Poppies.

 

Building: All recognition boards are up to date. Multiple small building repairs completed on toilets and doors.

 

Land & Rec: Campground Host responsibilities typed up and presented to an applicant, not working out too well.

 

House: All members present at last meeting; $2000 turned over to QM. Manager is now using the free edition of Quick Books, still ironing bugs out.

 

Trustees: None

 

Fundraising: Poker tournament brought in $369. Served 123 patrons at last breakfast and brought in $532; 50/50 up to $272. Still need Golf chairman for 2010.

 

Surgeon/Hospital: Blood drive 3 Oct at the post.

 

Safety: Be aware of school zone signs.

 

Chaplain: Received card from Mrs. Crook thanking the Post for support at the passing of her husband.

 

Break

 

Unfinished business:

1.      Keith Wooldridge had questions regarding the winter campground fees. Decision was made to make the fees a flat $12.50 a day for the winter months (Oct – Apr) and $10.00 for summer (May – Sep).

2.      CDR Pete Sill posted information regarding the gravel in the campground for post review.

 

New Business:

1.      CDR Pete Sill requested authorization for the purchase of the sodas for the military appreciation day (a MAP event). Motion was made by Chris Kinkle and seconded by Keith Wooldridge. Motion passed.

2.      CDR Pete Sill also requested authorization for the purchase of a vacuum cleaner since the old one died. Motion was made by Chris Kinkle and seconded by Keith Wooldridge. Motion passed.

3.      Sue Greg, affiliated with District 15 Youth Program, requested that we contact Friday Harbor schools and allow them to participate in our Youth programs, because we are the closest VFW. Logistics are being looked into and when it might be possible to incorporate them.

4.      Island County Chairman of the Republican party contacted the post and will be honoring WWII Vets in Island County in February. Darrell Small and Keith Wooldridge will go through our records.

5.      Post approval to host a fund raising dinner, Oct 24, for past Department Commander Dick Whipple (running for Sr. Vice Commander for National). Motion made by Chris Kinkle, seconded by Scott Dyche; motion passed.

 

Good of the Order:

1.      Mike Pierzchala won $12 at the meeting 50/50, donated to the relief fund.

2.      POW/MIA ceremony on18 Sep, 1200; 1700 POW/MIA ceremonies here at the post. This year’s Oyster run being hosted by the post 25-26 Oct.

3.      Donating Buddy Poppies to the Auxiliary so they can raise money for their relief fund.

4.      Oct 10 there will be a Neighborhood preparedness event.

5.      19 Sep, Ladies Auxiliary having their clothing drive.

6.      Quilts of Valor Foundation would like to expand to recognize Vietnam Veterans, Catherine Roberts would like to make a presentation on how the program works. More info to follow.

7.      Post was notified that it had an unredeemed gift certificate at missingmoney.com of between $25-$50 for     K-mart.

 

Closing ceremonies were held at 2000.
