For Meeting Held 2 March 2009 at 1900.

 

Commander Chris Kinkel called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

 

Roll call of Officers: 10 Present, 3 Absent (1 Excused)

 

Distinguished Visitors: None

 

New Members: Paul Dotlich, Thomas Turner, Jharn Gert, Steve Westhoe

 

Reinstatement: None

 

Transfers: Three

 

New Life Members: None

 

Motion made and seconded to accept new members.

 

Initiation of new members: None

 

Minutes of 2 February 2009 meeting read and accepted with two amendments.

 

Quartermasters report read and accepted with no amendments.

 

Service Officers report: 25 Clients assisted. One person came to our post for relief but was referred back to Mt. Vernon and was assisted there.

 

Member of family members in distress: Joann McDaniel in for knee surgery.

 

Committee Reports:

Adopt a Road – Scheduled for Saturday March 7th at 0900

 

Membership/Buddy poppy: 728 Life, 43 New, 12 Reinstatements, 165 continuous for 948 total. Prior year 987. Currently at 92.5%.

 

Building: Leak in roof in foyer, leaking toilet in women's restroom, wax seal broken.

 

Land & Rec:

Problem with guest at #5 has been resolved.

Attempt to get lawn mower serviced was made, not able to since person is not back from Arizona yet.

Area around utility area up front will be raked in and filled.

 

House:

Canteen house rules on board, copies available. Two rules revised and posted. One involved under the influence, the other involved minors.

Letter banning Donna Smith held by manager, no address to mail it to.

Manager requests medical equipment returned and properly stowed.

 

Golf: 18 July 2009 firmed up. Fliers soliciting donations will be revised soon and delivered.

 

 

VOD/Youth Essay: Elementary school awards completed. Appointments being made for middle schools. Theme for next VOD “Does America Still Have Heroes?”  When is the right time to honor our military heroes. Trophies for VOD bought, will be engraved soon and displayed.

Trustees: EOQ Audit will be performed at the end of this quarter.

 

Fundraising: Breakfast served 50 patrons, cleared $214.20. 50/50 up to $300.

 

Surgeon/Hospital: Discussed absence of existing surgeon as well as replacing current Surgeon.

 

Safety: Black Ice was discussed with a few accidents used as illustrations.

 

Upcoming events: 13 Mar, Cocktails 5pm, Dinner at 6pm. Military Appreciation Dinner. Expectation of about 100 patrons. Final planning meeting on 8 Mar, 1400.

 

Break

 

Unfinished business:

  1. Meeting for VOD/Youth Essay coordinator and Junior/Senior Quartermaster was held and all monies were properly accounted for and distributed.
  2. Problem guest was talked to and quietly left with no problems. Member was allowed to stay and is still in residence as of March meeting.
  3. Military Appreciation event was discussed. Assistance was asked for by Pete Sill. Questions were raised about where funding was coming from and answered by the Commander Chris Kinkel and the Quartermaster Darrell Small.

 

New Business:

  1. Ben Bunnell volunteered as Asst. Service Officer.
  2. By-laws back from National, a few changes needed to be made. Ready to go back for incorporation.
  3. Pete Sill brought up the accident that broke the gas main; questioned why a claim was not filed. Commander Chris Kinkel said that the paperwork would be acquired and a claim would be filed for repairs.
  4. Removal of Officers was discussed IRT the Post Surgeon's absences. Chris Kinkel read the VFW by laws for clarification. Pete Sill made a motion to send a letter of removal of incumbent Surgeon, motion was seconded. No discussion. Motion was voted on and passed.
  5. Raising funds for replacing the carpet was brought up by Darrell Small. Proposed funds would come from donations by the membership. Chris Kinkel said he would bring someone in for an estimate.
  6. Nominations for Post Officers was opened. Nominations:

Good of the Order:

  1. National Appointments were announced.
  2. Senate Bill 6050, Qualifying Disabled Veterans bill, was discussed.
  3. HR45 bill (anti-gun legislation) was brought up with short discussion.
