For Meeting Held 6 April 2009 at 1914.

 

Commander Chris Kinkel called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

 

Roll call of Officers: 12 Present, 2 Absent (1 Excused)

 

Distinguished Visitors: None

 

New Members: Michael Kelly, Charles Landon, Charles Trent, Ron Coleman

 

Reinstatement: None

 

Transfers: Two

 

New Life Members: None

 

Motion made and seconded to accept new members.

 

Initiation of new members: None

 

Minutes of 2 March 2009 meeting read and accepted with two amendments.

 

Quartermasters report read and accepted with no amendments.

 

Service Officers report: 144 hrs service, 216 miles driven, 28 clients last month.

 

Member or family members in distress: None

 

Committee Reports:

Membership/Buddy poppy: Membership is currently at 953, 24 not accounted for at national. Buddy Poppy importance to VFW covered.

 

Building: Carpet estimate in, almost $10,000. Possible solution of replacing damaged area of carpet/high traffic areas with linoleum/tile.

 

Land & Rec: Hole filled in by gas pipes. Gravel for fill being sought, donations vice buying being investigated. Water leaks slowly being eliminated as they are found/identified.

 

House: No funds turned over by manager. Paperwork for submission to the insurance company to recover monetary losses due to damage to the gas line was to be picked up at the Sheriff’s office; waiting for input from the post for monetary losses/property damage. QuickBooks was authorized for purchase.

 

Golf: 18 July 2009 firmed up; fliers and applications going out soon.

 

Adopt a Road: Good turnout of six people. Road is already trashed, another date coming soon.

 

Trustees: Audit should be completed by the end of this quarter (April).

 

Fundraising: 50/50 up to $398.50. Breakfast served close to 100 people and garnered $366.50.

 

Surgeon/Hospital: 21 March saw a collection of 31 pints of blood. Next blood drive tentatively slated for Saturday, 13 June. Hospital equipment is not being logged properly. Post equipment should be properly marked, we may have excess equipment. Inventory will be done and equipment logged.

 

Safety: No report.

New Business:

  1. Scholarship application committee needed to assist. Mike, Cecil and Chris as committee members.
  2. Saturday, 23 May, Memorial Day parade in Coupeville.
  3. Janitor issues still an issue, job not being done. Pete Sill recommended he be fired. Cecil mentioned that the manager has the authority to hire/fire the janitor. Post recommends current janitor be fired.
  4. New campground fee for winter time was brought up by Pete Sill, possibly raising the fee. Pete made a motion to raise the monthly fees to $400 a month from 1 Oct to 30 Apr and was seconded by Darrell Small. Discussion about actual fees was brought up as well as specific information on electrical bills. It was mentioned that an extra $100 a month would be needed to cover the extra costs. Rates would be effective 1 October 2009. Motion passed.
  5. Keith Wooldridge asked about acquiring 2009 podium manuals. Incoming Commander Pete Sill said to wait until after National meeting.
  6. Upcoming MAP event was discussed. Money to cover the event was decided to be split between the auxiliary and the post. Paperwork to be reimbursed will be submitted.

 

Good of the Order:

  1. Intallation of Officers will be 9 May, 1900.
  2. District Commander Cecil Pierce discussed district elections.
