Commander Chris Kinkel called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

Roll call of Officers: 14  present, 2 excused, 0 absent, 1 vacant, 6 additional members, 0 distinguished visitors.

Minutes of June 7 meeting read and accepted.

Quartermasters report read and accepted.

Bill received from County Health Department discussed.  Paid, receipt problems discussed.

Service Officers report: Stated several cases handled, some monies distributed, Training session October 3rd

Member or family members in distress:

Steve Merkel’s father in law passed away recently.

Draping of the Charter for deceased members:

 

Committee Reports

Adopt-A-Road: Cleanup set for 13 July at 0900.

Membership/Buddy Poppy: 736 Life, 32 New, 24 reinstates, 195 continuous, 95% total membership, $00.00 donations to buddy poppies. 

Building:  Shed is under construction for recycling materials.  Dishwasher still waiting for electrician for completion.  Discussion held regarding the wiring for the dishwasher.  Parts on order, dates for finishing unknown.

Land & Rec: Resident mowing the grass, watering in progress.  New property values received. 

House: No monies turned over to the Quartermaster this month due to $3,700 paid out to State for gambling licenses.  House rules still in progress.  Skip & Sandy presented suggestion for Janitorial Contract as requested by the Committee, but decided this was a Post paid position so House Committee is passing it on to the Post for action or not.

Golf: 19th of July for tournament. 

VOD/Youth Essay:  2008-09 Themes. Patriot’s Pen 3rd to 5th grade: My Thanks to the Armed Forces, 6th to 8th Grade: Why America’s Veterans Should Be Honored, Voice of Democracy 9th to 12th : Service and Sacrifice by America’s Veterans Benefits Today’s Youth by _____.  Scholarships were given out at a recent school event.

Trustees:  Quarterly audit planned this week. No problems anticipated.

Fundraising: Texas Hold ‘Em still going strong. This years final next week. 50/50 still in progress.  Current total approx $224.  Breakfast in May raised $426 dollars profit. 

Surgeon/Hospital: Blood drive scheduled on July 5, 23 units of blood received.  Filled in for Elks.

Safety: Summer finally arrived.  Bikers, baby scooters out everywhere. 

Upcoming Events: Breakfast, 2 dinners, DJ music this month.

No Life member drawing.

50/50 drawing won by Darrell Small.  Donated to the Relief fund. 

 

Unfinished Business:

Nominations opened for 1 year trustee.  None voiced. Closed until next meeting.

Flag pole rope.  Lift required to replace rope. Painting to be done at the same time. 

Dishwasher is being installed.  Electrician required to complete the project. 

Motion made to research cost of mountings for two donated flags.  Motion seconded. Passed.  Gary Cosner has for action.

 

New Business :

VFW Department of Washington general orders read.

VFW MATTS Program information discussed.  Program is asking for donations to continue the program.  Motion made to donate $250 to the MAPS program.  Money was initially received from District for being #1 in State.  Seconded.  Discussed.  Motion failed.

Operation Goldstar banner program for fallen soldiers.  2 x 3 foot banners.  Banners eventually to go to the families involved. Motion made to sponsor one banner for $85.00.  Coupeville resident would be the recipient of out donation.  Seconded.  Discussed. Passed.

Volunteers of the year nominated by the Past Commander.  Nominations were Skip Johnson and Stan & Irene Gearheart.

Janatorial duties.  Motion made to turn all Janatorial duty supervision and payroll to the Canteen Manager.  Motion seconded.  This will include hiring and firing of same.  Motion tabled until House Committee can meet and report on same.

 

Good Of The Order:

E-Board meeting on July 13 to make recommendations for bylaws changes.

Discussion held regarding lack of participation in the July 4th parade.  Post Commander assessed $1 fine for language.

National Veterans wheelchair games will be on Spokane.

Dave Hallett assessed $2 for wrong hat.

 

Distinguished Visitors:

Honored Guest Rick Hamilton, Past District Commander presented several National and State awards.

Cecil Pierce, District Commander, spoke briefly.

 

Closing ceremonies were held at 2020.
