For Meeting Held 7 April 2008, at 1900.

 

Commander Keith Wooldridge called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

Roll call of Officers: 11 present, x excused, 2 absent, 2 vacant, 4 additional members.

Distinguished visitors:

Motion made and seconded, passed, to accept new members.

Initiation of New Members: None

Minutes of Mar 3 meeting read and accepted.

Quartermasters report read by Quartermaster Pro Tem and accepted.

Service Officers report: Averaging 4-5 cases per week. 

Member or family members in distress:

  Darrell Small’s father passed away.

  Aaron Messingers mother passed away.

  Bill & Jackie Hall son passed away.

Draping of the Charter for deceased members:

Committee Reports

Adopt-A-Road: Next road cleanup later this month.  Date to be posted.

Membership/Buddy Poppy: 735 Life, 23 New, 24 reinstates, 186 continuous, 968 total 93.17% membership, $0 sales of buddy poppies. 

Building: Doorknob lock changed to office spaces at rear of the building changed.  Keys going to authorized personnel only.  Dishwasher to be installed May 30.

Land & Rec: Grass is green, being mowed as possible.

House: Turned over $2000 to quartermaster. Prime Rib on 10th.  Changed room rental agreement to members only, raised room rental.  Non-member room rentals will be handled on a separate contract.

Golf: 19th of July for tournament.  Raffle to be held raising money for tournament.

VOD/Youth Essay:  All checks and certificates have been distributed.  Some certificates still need spelling checks.

Trustees:  Will have

Fundraising: Texas Hold ‘Em still going strong. 50/50 still in progress.  Total approx $64.50.  Breakfast in March raised $310 dollars profit. 

Surgeon/Hospital: Reported on statistics from National.  Next blood drive 6 June. No more wheelchairs, porta pottie seats. No more room.

Safety: SR 20 update.  Skagit Island Regional Transportation meeting upcoming.

 

Upcoming Events:

Jr. Girls Unit State Conference June 6-8 tentatively. Will be camping in the campground.

Holland Happening in April

Texas Hold “Em, Prime Rib Dinner, Karaoke, Country Night

April 28th Readiness Fair on base.

Next District meeting in Bellingham.  Elections to be held.

Motion made for the adjutant to cast a unanimous ballot for any unopposed office.  Seconded, passed.

Flag pole rope.  Still in progress.  Kinkel for action.

Motion made to only take scholarships from the Scholarship Fund.  Seconded.  Motion tabled until this meeting for research.  Research still in progress. Tabled until the next meeting.

Coupeville invited us for 24 May parade.  Post will participate.

 

New Business :

Motion made for long term campers in top row to move to lower areas during heavy camping season to give space for larger rigs.  Seconded.  Failed.

Motion made to investigate the cost of a recycling shed where the fat vat used to be.  Seconded, passed.

 

Good Of The Order:

VFW Post service Officer training on June 27 2008.  Time TBA.

New theme for VOD, Youth Essays voiced.

Veteran of the Year.   Joe Dixon to be nominated for Veteran of the Year and Service Officer of the Year.

Anyone with old military patches please donate them for the patch board.

Upcoming Buddy Poppy & membership drive on base.

Chaplin Tyler to contact Air Terminal for book distribution.

Tom Darling spoke briefly.  Fundraiser at Fox Hall in Bellingham upcoming.

New method of presenting VOD awards discussed.  Changes in some of the prayers are in the works.
