For Meeting Held 7 August 2006, at 1900.
Commander Cecil Pierce called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.
Roll call of Officers, 11 present, 4 excused, 1 absent. 9 members present.
Distinguished visitors: Department Chaplin, Tom Darling
New members: Mitch Reeh, Dennis Skaggs, Jerry Harcrow, Edward Mueller
New life member Sid Strother, Transfer of Life Member Jason Hoppe
Motion to accept new members by Small, seconded. Passed.
Minutes of July 3rd meeting read and accepted
Quartermasters report read and accepted
1. Question regarding cost of newsletter. Higher cost due to increased number of copies.
2. Erroneous information caused large raise in Post insurance. Has been reviewed and lowered.
Service Officers report: Rep to be here to discuss retirement at next meeting.
Comrades or family members in distress: Southard moved to Whidbey Manor Room #6 from Summer Hill.
Draping of the Charter for deceased member Terry Meindl.
Committee Reports:
Adopt-A-Road: Good turnout last meet. 8 people showed up. Ladies will be invited to take part, and plan to do so. Sign to be changed.
Bowling: No report, no more participation.
Membership/Buddy Poppy: Membership at 76.3% for year, 55 continuous members. Buddy Poppy drive on July 4th, $285.45 taken in.
Building: Report given on Puget Power grant program for relighting the building. Will lower bill by about $1,900 per year. Can be done under authority of certified electrician. Terry Anderson will assist in that project.
Golf: Tournament gained in excess of $3,000 to Post after all costs.
Land & Rec: Painting accomplished, Phil to be departing later this month. Rick will need committee members to assist after Phil’s departure. Thanks given to those involved with current accomplished projects.
House: Committee suspended price changing until Manager can review documents provided for increase. Request made to manager to contact the trustees to assist in the tracking of the accounts. Currently have 1 elected member, two appointed members, and two temporary members. Request made for members to take an active part and fill in positions that are open. Chairman Holland gave formal notice of departure due to retirement and job acceptance at another location. Chairman Holland thanked the Post for the opportunity to serve in his capacity on the House Committee. New manager is now Kari.
VOD/Youth Essay: Training session last week. Has contacted the schools for face to face meetings. Progressing well.
Trustees: Quarterly audit held. Minor errors found, but nothing major to be concerned about at this time. Ben Bunnell is Chair and working closely with the manager.
Fundraising: Scheduled Sunday 13th, 1 PM for Texas Hold ‘Em. Coffee stop on Sept 8th, 9th, 10th. Post will have a food booth at the Lion’s Club Car Show. Volunteers needed. Central Whidbey Sportsman Assn event Aug 18, 19, 20 for food booth.

Unfinished Business:
Regarding expenses for delegates. Will require bylaw change. Meeting of Bylaw Committee will be held for the Executive Committee this Thursday, 6 PM.
New Business:
Keith Woodridge made the motion that the Canteen close at 10 PM Sun & Mon at the discretion of the Manager. Seconded by Pete Sill. Discussed. Passed unanimously.
Bill Conklin discussed rising costs of the newsletter. Cost of printing at Office Max maybe cheaper. Possibility of adding advertising may be advisable to reduce costs. Will eliminate the non-profit status for mailing, NOT for the Post. All information on mailer is on the website. Commander Pierce will speak to the Ladies Auxiliary regarding splitting costs of the newsletter.
Jim Glascow made a motion to pursue the Puget Power grant in the amount of 3,500. Seconded. Discussion. Motion passed.
Pete Sill made motion, seconded by Chris to have food booth at the Central Whidbey Sportsman’s Rendezvous on Friday & Saturday only. Discussion. Motion passed.
Motion made (Sill), seconded, to fund booth at the Sportsman’s Club Rondevous in the amount of $200. Motion passed. 1 Nay vote cast.
Pete Sill made motion for $200 seed money for Car Show Food Booth, seconded. Discussed. Motion passed. 1 Nay vote cast.
50/50 drawing information. Weekly drawing would be held. Cost of $1.00. This is to raise funds for the building fund. Discussion held.
Elections: position open for Jr. Vice Commander, and three on the House Committee. (Two one year, one two year)
Nominations for Junior Vice Commander: Jim Glascow. Nominations closed. Motion made by Sill, seconded by Keith, that the adjutant pass unanimous vote on unopposed offices. Passed.
Nominations for two year House Committee member: Pete Sill First position closed.
Nomination for two year House Committee member: Chris Kinkel. Second position closed.
Nomination for two year House Committee member: Mike Murphy. Two year position closed. Nomination accepted by letter from Mr. Murphy as he was unable to attend.
Unanimous ballot cast for open positions.
Good Of The Order
Floor in the area of the ice machine to be checked from under the building this week. Repairs to be made for safety reasons.
Next meeting will be September 11.
Discussion of Freedom Walk September 11. Post may be sponsoring event. Commander will pursue.
Sept 23 Autumn Leaf Festival. Notify Darrell Small if attending.
Military Assistance program. Small is on committee. Anyone wanting phone cards, etc for dependents, see him.
Grills have been repaired in V-Dome.
Department Chaplin Tom Darling spoke briefly.
