MAY - JUNE 2012
NEWSLETTER
FROM THE COMMANDER AND PRESIDENT
Comrades.
Another quarter is behind us and we had
some great food, entertainment and a few challenges. As we look forward to
the upcoming quarter we have installed the new District Officers at our
post, completed some Service Officer training, elected new officers for
Post 7392 and a plethora of other things. In short, we have been a busy
post. Speaking of our new elected officers, the installation will be held
on 19 May at 1400. There will not be a luncheon this year as our Commander
elect will need to keep the event short, due to needing to be at work off
island. I hope to see a great turnout and as always, if you want to eat,
bar steaks are just $7.00 every day. We are also doing Monday and Thursday
dinners!! If you are one of the few that have not made it out for the
dinners, I highly recommend that you pencil in a Monday or Thursday and be
treated to some great food and don't forget about breakfast on the last
Sunday of the month. Once again this year, we are raffling off a Winchester
Centennial '66, 30.30 lever action rifle. Tickets can be purchased at the
bar or from one of the house committee members for just $5.00 each, it's a
beautiful firearm. The drawing will be held on 18 August at 1500 so time to
purchase tickets is running out, August will be here before we know it. Our
post is also sponsoring the first ever Veterans Day parade in Oak Harbor
this year on 10 November! We have invited Veterans organizations from all
over to attend and hope to have a great turn out. This is our parade, I
hope to see a large number of our post and auxiliary members participating.
We have monthly meetings for the parade on the second Monday of each month
starting at 1830 at the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce on highway 20. And
last, but not least, our post is responsible for the Memorial Day graveside
services this year. We will begin at Maple Leaf in Oak Harbor on 28 May at
1100 and move to Sunnyside in Coupeville for the service that begins at
1300. It has been my honor to serve as your Post Commander for the past
year. We have moved ahead by leaps and bounds, we are becoming a force to
be reckoned with in the dining and entertainment venues in Oak Harbor. We
are putting ourselves on the map in so many good ways. Please come out and
support your post, you will have a great time.

RIDERS GROUP
April was a busy month for the VFW Riders Group. We attended several rides whose proceeds went to organizations that benefit veterans and one for Make a Wish foundation. We also rode escort for the Whidbey Marathon. We have about 20 service hours helping a Post member. May looks to be a busy one also as the weather gets better, we will be out doing more good things for the Post and Veterans. See ya on the road!
