MAY-JUNE NEWSLETTER
Post Commander & Auxiliary President
Comrades and Sisters,
First let me tell you what a pleasure it has been serving as the Commander this year, but my term is coming to a close. We (The Post and Auxiliary) have done a lot of good things this year for the community. Some of them include giving away prizes to our Youth Essay, Patriot’s Pen, and Voice of Democracy programs. And, we will be giving away two $750 scholarships in June. Congratulations to those lucky students. We will be attending Memorial Services at both Maple Leaf and Sunny Side Cemetery’s on Memorial Day. Everyone is welcome to attend. Look for the times in the newspaper or on the web site. In June, we will be attending the Summer Convention in Vancouver. Find out what happened in the next newsletter. Comrade Murphy asked me to remind you that no golf tourney applications will be accepted after July 11th this year to alleviate any confusion and make the registration and event go smoothly. We held elections last month and chose a new regime for next year. See the listing elsewhere in this issue. Congratulations to all of them and I wish them all luck. We will be having our Installation of Officers Dinner on 17 May. No host bar at 6PM, dinner at 7PM, installation to follow. We will also be installing our Junior Girls Unit at the same time. I hope everyone will come and join us. Look on the website later for the menu.
In Comradeship, Keith Wooldridge
Comrades and Sisters,
Our elections have been held (see list on the right) and the new officers will take the helm after Department Convention. Come on out to the meetings and get to know and support your Officers. Thanks to all the volunteers that worked on the Post & Auxiliary programs this past year. I know we will receive awards at Convention for the work you do. Membership remains our mainstay. We still need the Annual members to come forth with their dues payment for 2008 to make both the Post and the Auxiliary 100% membership by June 30. We will definitely need all your help to achieve our goal. It needs to be into Department in May. We appreciate all you do for the betterment of our Post and Auxiliary and we are working to make our VFW the best in the State of Washington
Loyally, Kathi Naff
SURGEONS REPORT
Don’t forget the Blood Drive on Saturday, 7 June 2008 (10AM to 12 and 1 PM to 4 PM). All of this years Blood Drives, will be on Saturdays for convenience and in the hopes we get a better turnout. Last time we received 29 Pints and I hope to do better as our goal is always 30. As always we need cookies and juices donated to serve to the donors. Volunteers are always welcome to help out serving. If you are aware of any member that is hospitalized, sick at home or passed on, please contact Doug Tyler (Post Chaplain) or myself and we will arrange a visit or send a card. Remember the Post will provide services for any member. Contact the Post Commander to make arrangements at 675-7392. I can no longer accept the following items for lack of storage space, wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs and porta-potties. I will take crutches and canes. Sorry for any inconvenience but I have limited storage space and I’m at capacity now. Mark your calendars for blood drives: June 7th, Sep 6th, Dec 6th In Comradeship Pete Sill
LAND & RECREATION
Spring is in the air and the mowers are up and running. Volunteers are always needed to help keep our grounds neat and pretty. If you’ve got some extra time on your hands and want to help out, just give me a call, or contact Seth in site #7 and we’ll hook you up with the tools you need. As always, sweeping around the building and pulling weeds are the number one projects which are continually needing to be done. I don’t believe in sign up sheets so come on in and volunteer an hour or two. Remember the Post belongs to ALL of us and it takes ALL of us to maintain it. Darrell Small will be assuming the position of Land and Recreation Chairman in July, I hope the membership will step up and do their part to help him maintain our grounds. Thank-you to the volunteers who have been helping out throughout the past year.
Pete Sill, Land and Recreation Chairman
WHAT KIND OF TATER ARE YOU?
Some people never seem motivated to participate but they are content to watch while others do all the work. They are called “Speck Taters”. Some people never do anything to help, but are gifted at finding fault with others. They are called “Comment Taters”. Some people are very bossy and like to tell others what to do, but don’t want to soil their own hands. These are “Dic Taters”. Some people are always looking to cause problems by asking others to agree with them. It’s too hot or too cold, too sour, too sweet. These are the “Agi Taters”. There are those who say they will help, but just never get around to actually doing what they promised. They’re “Hezzie Taters”. Some people can put up a front and pretend to be someone they’re not. They are called the “Emma Taters”. Then there are those who love others and do what they say they will. They are always prepared to stop whatever they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others. They are called the “Sweet Taters”. Now, what kind of Tater are you?
CELEBRITY ROAST ON MAY 30
Come in and vote on a “guest” for the roast. Nomination someone for $5. Vote for a candidate for $1 a vote. Join us for dinner, roasting, toasting, & trash talk. This should be fun for all. Dinner starts at 6 PM. Join us!
ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND GOLF MATCH
The VFW Post 7392 Annual Scholarship Golf Match will be held on July 19th. No applications will be accepted after July 11th. If we get enough entries, this will be a closed course event, so grab all your old golf buds and get your entries in! Mike Murphy, Golf Chairman
CANTEEN CORNER
There are no dinners planned by the canteen for the next two months because of the poor turnout last month. Please watch the Post Website, the outside and inside readerboards for updates and special events. You never know what we may come up with. Also, thanks to all the volunteers who made the dinners possible. Gordy Pearson (cook), Skip Johnson, Mike & Maria Murphy, Stan & Irene Gearheart, Pete Sill, Joann McDaniels and granddaughter Megan. Now for the bad news. Cost are up everywhere for everything so it’s time for an increase at the canteen. As of 1 June, liquor (not beer) prices will go up at least $0.25. Sorry folks. Thanks, Sandy Sill, Manager
GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER
To defray costs, we’ve got 2 fine saws up for raffle for the Golf Tournament. One is a Craftsman Table Saw with table, the second is a Craftsman Chop Saw. Tickets are $.50 each, no limit, drawing May 30 at the VFW, 6 PM.
