Commander Cecil Pierce called the meeting to order IAW VFW ritual.

Roll call of Officers, 11 present, 0 excused, 5 absent, 2 vacancies (building, land). 9 additional members present.

Service Officers report:  Will try to get information for presentation scheduled for today for later dissemination.

Jack Jensen in hospital in Omak.

Draping of the Charter for deceased member: None

 

Committee Reports:

Adopt-A-Road: Will be in operation 0900 next Saturday. 

Bowling: District meet at Riverside Lanes this year, first Sunday in March.

Membership/Buddy Poppy: Membership at 81.32% for year, 108 continuous members, 713 life members. Dues for life membership going up, cost discussed.

Building: Floor under new stove to be repaired, stove to be installed this week.  Lighting replacement discussed.  Manpower will be appreciated.

Golf: No report

Land & Rec: No report, Chair open.

House: Report given.  Chris Kinkel now Chair.  Ladies holding dinner and breakfasts in September and October.  Discussion on pricing, food, miscellaneous items.

VOD/Youth Essay:

Trustees: Trustees did Quarterly audit, very minor discrepancies found.  Trustees will do another unofficial audit for general principles, practice and informational.  This will not be a full audit.

 

Sept 11, 2006 Continued

 

Fundraising:  Texas Hold’Em changed from last Sunday to this Sunday 1 PM.  Breakfast coming up, volunteers needed.  50/50 drawing to be held monthly on a Friday

night, 50% to winner, 50% to fundraising.  Coffee Spot was not held due to lack of participation.

Surgeon/Hospital: No chair.

Upcoming Events: Sept 21, chicken fried steak dinner.

Life member drawing won by Timothy H. Turner, not present.

50/50 drawing won by Dennis Meredith, donated to National Home.

 

Unfinished Business:

Lobby boards (Past Commander, VOY, Deceased) will be finished.

Newsletter changes (splitting cost to be considered, Men & Ladies)

Bylaws changes delayed due to lack of handouts. 

 

New Business:

Surgeon position. Has missed last three meetings.   In interim, Chris Kinkel will manage reports.

Motion made (Keith) and seconded to buy 5,000 buddy poppies.

Motion made to raise dues to $30.00 as of 1 January, 2007.  Seconded, discussion held.  Dues increase had to be in by June for Post increase, via National.  Second mailing of dues reminders will be out in November.  Motion passed, 1 nay vote.

Motion made for House Committee to return to once a month meetings, seconded.  Yea 6, nay 5 votes.  Motion passed.

Motion made by Jim Glascow to fund half of $250 Teachers award (in conjunction with Women’s Auxiliary), seconded.  Discussion held.

Amendment made and seconded to use money from scholarship fund to pay for award. Passed.  Main motion passed.

Motion made that the Campground host clean campground restrooms.   Passed unanimously.

Motion made and seconded to award $50 to the Patriotic Art contest winner.  Amended to read payment to be made only if the winner is from Oak Harbor or Coupeville School District. Yea 6, Nay 2.

Elections: None held.  No members in attendance are able to take the vacant positions due to elected vs. appointed positions.

 

Good Of The Order

Comrade Bunnell thanked Comrade Glascow for work on repairs to the floor under the ice machine.

Jim Glascow reported on the access ramp built for a members wife.  The wife died four days after the ramp was finished.  The effort was greatly appreciated.

September dinner is Chicken Fried Steak.  Help is needed.  Last Sunday of the month is breakfast, volunteers needed there also.

Discussion regarding building extended office in Women’s meeting room.  Alternate ways are being investigated.

Honored guests were recognized and spoke briefly.
